General English vs. Academic English.
Academic English is more formal, objective and also has to use a lot of referencing.
You always have to let people know where you got your information from. You have to give the source.
1. Contractions
don't -> do not
2. Phrasal Verbs
go up -> increase
take away -> remove
3. Idioms
A1 -> excellent
4. Slang
kids -> children
5. Pronouns
You can see from the graph ~ -> The graph shows ~
6. Negatives
is not effective -> is ineffective
is not positive -> is negative
7. Cliches
When all is said and done -> in conclusion
8. Punctuation
MLA-APA stype guide(?)
difference between '.' and ';'
[some sentence].[other sentence]
[some sentence];[other sentence]
When we use ',' between sentence the second sentence starts with Capital letter.
However, if we use ';', the second sentence start with small letter.
9. Vague language
a bit, a lot, kind of, sort of -> considerable
10. Simple vocab
big difference -> major distinction
11. Personal opinion
I think -> According to
12. Direct language
too strong, can't be justified
